Lifeguarding Certification (Fairmont, WV) FSU Feaster Center

Length:

Pretest March 19, 2010 at 7:30pm Fairmont State Feaster Center. Training on March 20 & 21 from 9am to 5pm and March 27, 28 from 9am to 5pm.

Instructor: Chris Davis, Instructor - (304) 669-0469. For certification, student must complete entire course, no exceptions.

This 2 hour course reviews how to recognize and respond to breathing and cardiac emergencies for adults. Students must provide a copy of their current Adult CPR certificate issued within the past 12 months. Students should bring their American Red Cross Adult CPR/AED Skills Card and student participation manual from previous course. Replacement skills card and manual available at additional cost.

Description:

This 3 hour course teaches individuals to recognize and respond to breathing and cardiac emergencies for adults and familiarizes students with the use of an AED (Automated External Defibrillator) for victims of cardiac arrest. Students will learn when an AED is appropriate and how to operate the device safely. $30.00 fee includes participant's booklet and laminated skills reference card.

CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer

Length:

6.0 hours

Description:

This 6 hour class is designed for professional rescuers, those with a duty to act and provide care, or anyone with a need for advanced CPR knowledge. Course content covers recognizing and caring for breathing and cardiac emergencies for adults, infants and children, two-rescuer CPR, use of resuscitation mask, and bag-valve mask and AED. $60 fee includes participant's booklet and pocket mask. Note: This course is equivalent to American Heart Association Healthcare Provider.

Course Name:

Instructor - Lay Responder First Aid and CPR/AED/BBP

Length:

Approximately 24 hours

Pre-requisites:

Pass a pre-course* written exam with a score of 80 percent or higher on each component and successfully demonstrating competency in the skills evaluation in accordance with the established skill standards. Minimum age of 16. Note: This course includes a session called Fundamentals of Instructor Training, a pre-requisite for all Red Cross Instructor-Level courses.

*The pre-course session ensures that candidates seeking teaching authorization possess the basic skills for the courses they wish to teach. Lay Responders First Aid and CPR Program Instructor Candidates must pass each section of the pre-course written exam with a score of at least 80 percent and demonstrate competency in the skills evaluation. Course materials are made available for review upon registration. Candidates may also audit a regularly schedule basic-level course(s) as a refresher at no cost or participant in regularly scheduled basic courses(s) at additional cost.

Description:

Upon conclusion of this instructor course, candidates should be thoroughly familiar with course materials and should be able to -

  • Demonstrate the characteristics required of an American Red Cross representative and role model.
  • Teach courses in a manner that helps participants stay engaged in the learning process.
  • Ensure participants' health and safety during training.
  • Demonstrate applicable first aid, CPR and AED skills at an appropriate level of performance
  • Maintain complete and accurate records and reports.
  • Plan, organize and conduct the first aid, CPR and AED courses in accordance with the requirements of the specific program they will be teaching, and evaluate participants.
  • Monitor participants' practice and provide corrective feedback and encouragement consistent with the critical skill performance steps.
  • Choose the appropriate course and materials to meet the specific training needs of participants or groups.

Course fee of $150 includes 24 hours of instruction by an authorized American Red Cross Instructor Trainer, Lay Responder First Aid and CPR/AED Instructions Manual, your choice of EITHER the First Aid and CPR/AED for the Workplace participant and materials and the First Aid and CPPR/AED Participant for Schools and Community participant materials and Schools.

CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer (full course description)

(For health care professionals,* such as Nurses, EMTs, Firefighters and Lifeguards**)

To teach those with a duty to act (professional rescuers) the skills needed to respond appropriately to breathing and cardiac emergencies. This includes the use of an automated external defibrillator (AED) to care fro a victim of cardiac arrest. Click here to register for an upcoming class.

Pet First Aid 

The purpose of this presentation is to teach participants how to be prepared for emergencies that involve a cat or dog and how to protect themselves and the animal from further harm, injury or suffering during emergencies by teaching prompt, effective first aid actions and care. Babysitting (full course description)

The purpose of this course is to provide youth who are planning to babysit with the knowledge and skills necessary to safely and responsibly give care for children and infants. This training will help participants to develop leadership skills; learn how to develop a babysitting business, keep themselves and others safe and help children behave; and learn about basic child care and basic first aid. If you would like to register for an upcoming class, E-mail your interest to the Director of Health & Safety Training. Instructor's Training (full course description)

The purpose of this course is to provide training and certification for the participant to in turn, instruct and train in American Red Cross Health & Safety Training courses.
